It took me a while to get a hang of it, but these days, I can safely say that I have a good grasp of men’s shoe styles. Loafers are not especially suited for shorts, jeans and other sporty attire but do go really well with denims and button-down shirts. Introduction

In this article I will outline some of the different mens shoes that are out there, my experiences with them and what they are used for. In my experience, looking back, the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about mens designers shoes is that they have a hefty price tag associated with them. My first consideration is always financial. Do I really need to spend this much money on a pair of shoes? That’s the con argument. I have thought a lot about what could possibly be classified as mens casual shoes. Think about it. If you have a very well paid job as a top banking investor, you will be wearing very expensive, possibly designer shoes, pretty much the entire day and week. For example, if I want to wear them at night, possibly with jeans, then I go for something that is somewhat warmer as the nights do get cold sometimes. I also make sure that I can easily drive a car in them and that they are comfortable for walking so I can take my girlfriend for a stroll before or after the restaurant and cinema or whatever we may be doing that evening. There is nothing worse than having attention on your feet and shoes when they should be on your loved one instead.

When I talk about dress shoes, I mean highly polished and shiny black or brown oxford shoes or similar. These are the shoes that I wear to black tie dinners and very formal parties and events. I sometimes see shoes to are so shiny they look like they had a coat of varnish. How does one achieve such a shine? I do have to warn you, they are not mens comfortable dress shoes! There is no comfort involved here. They are extremely stiff and hard, to make the clacking sounds as you walk, and therefore your feet will hurt if you wear them too long at a time. You cannot “break in” these dress/parade shoes like normal leather shoes. It is well worth the money and appearance though and the pain is nothing like a nice hot bath at night can’t handle.

When it comes to mens fashion shoes I personally think it is entirely down to each individual person what they think is good, bad and the ugly. I have seen many fashion trends over the years, each year being entirely different, and to be honest I personally take it more as a guideline of what is in this year and what is out rather than a “must have these shoes this year” as they are the fashion statement. Of course I like to be fashionable, as does pretty much everyone else but it has to be affordable too and in alignment with my taste and dressing style.

To find out what is in fashion, I tend to look at my girlfriends fashion magazines such as OK, Hello and so on. And lets face it, they can do it a lot better than us so why not use it as an inspiration and learn a thing or two. After all, they spend thousands of dollars a year on cloths, shoes and other fashion items. So checking out what shoes they wear can never hurt. Top designer stores such as found in Major cities will also be very much up to date and act as a good source of information too. Staff tend to be helpful and often explain to me what is in and out this year. Again they work in the industry and so know what they are talking about.
